Galen is a stellar Chirurgeon, specializing in the fields of aetherical healing as well as physical surgery, both in the clinic and in the field. Be it Biped or Quadruped, sentient or not, he will make sure you are patched up. He is also a rather skilled gunfighter, though his philosophy is more along the lines of "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick". He also is a virtuoso of campfire cooking and barbeque, even among Shaaloani denizens.

A prominent weakness of his is being too focused upon a task, be it research or attempting to cure a patient. That singlemindedness can bestow upon him tunnel vision that might cause him to overlook outside of other situations. A severe coffee addiction does not help, resulting in caffeine headaches if not given a dose soon.

His main motivation in life is to bestow upon people the right to their health, where status, wealth, and political allegiances do not bar someone from receiving treatment. A more selfish motivation of his, however, is to finally have enough money to built a clinic and veterinary ranch in Eorzea.

The good doctor has a bad case of Nyctophobia, where he becomes much more alert and silent, especially in the wilderness. Not enough to induce panic, but one would notice a visible change in how he carries himself. He also has an unhealthy suspicion of Moogles, for reasons many know not. But above all, the greatest fear he has is coming home to a patient's family and telling them that they did not survive their injuries.

Born on a ranch outside of Sheshenewezi Springs to a member of the Duskwatch and a Rancher girl, Galen had a rather down to earth life. Growing up, he did many things around Inyan Ranch; tended to the Rroneek that they made their living off of, walked the fence to fend off the Scalekin and Gritclaws that tried attacking every so often, and going to the Springs to trade and sell the meats and hides that they subsided on.However, throughout all the time, Galen's folks saw he was always watching attentively whenever someone got hurt on the Ranch, or when treating the injuries of the cattle on the ranch. Always he was focused, paying attention, and by the time he reached ten years old, whenever he was not doing chores on the ranch, he would be running to the town doctor, watching patients being taken care of attentively. Eventually, it happened enough that the physician of the town took Galen in as an apprentice, the boy doing tasks such as cleaning the tools, rushing to fetch water and ingredients for a poultice, or even just hurrying around town.This carried on, until at last Galen turned sixteen, where he sat his folks down one night, along with the rest of his siblings. He knew for a fact that he wasn't going to inherit the ranch, especially after all the medical work he had been doing. He had been putting money aside that he earned to save for an education in Tuliyollal, where he would one day set off to learn. To his surprise, his mother and father agreed, but he would not study in Tuliyollal; he was being sent to Sharlyan, where he would learn from the best of the best.

When Galen turned seventeen, he was sent to Sharlyan with the funds the family had saved up for quite a while. Sharlayan was absolutely different than the dusty hills and dunes of Shaaloani, and he was awestruck by how much marble that was just EVERYWHERE. These questions and more continued to pile upon his mind, but one thing was clear; he came here to learn about medicine, and by all that was holy, he was going to get it done.Being so young, however, had its disadvantages, though. He was unsure of how to talk to most folks, especially given the fact that he sounded absolutely foreign from across the Salt. Certainly earned quite a few nicknames with his accent and his mannerisms, but many did not complain when he introduced the concept of steak to the Sharlyans, which was met with...mixed success.Regardless of that, however, when Galen was not studying medicine, he was spending time with the Gleaners of Sharlyan, learning as much as he could from their notes and experiences. He believed that he could do greater work out in the field instead of being cooped up in an office or a clinic somewhere, especially given his time out on the Ranch and roaming the hills with the town physician. Harder and harder he studied, losing a great amount of sleep as he developed his addiction to coffee. How many cups he drank a day, he lost count, but the coffee of Sharlayan made him further appreciate the beans of Yok and Xak Tural, and by the Twelve, he missed them.Still, with gifts sent over from his family and with the resolve to become a Chirurgeon, he worked his ass off day and night, around the clock until at last, he was granted the proper licensing of becoming a full-fledged chirurgeon, recognized around the Star. One of the younger members of Sharlayan to do so, in fact, but that was nothing compared to the Leveillures becoming Archons at such a young age (a fact he grumbles about every so often).

He has a surprisingly calm demeanor, and a surprising amount of stamina, yet for some reason seems to hold an obsession with mice, which has...been a problem, sometimes.
